ResponsibilitiesAs the IRMS Research Analyst at the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory, you will be responsible for developing and applying methodologies primarily in the technical area of gas chromatography / combustion / isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/C/IRMS) for the purpose of detecting the origin of endogenous steroids. Method development and application will entail assessment of strategies for detection with a focus on sensitivity, selectivity and efficiency; optimization of sample preparation procedures, instrumentation, data analysis, validation of method performance and application to service samples and samples resulting from administration studies. It is expected that successful development and/or application of methodologies will be followed by dissemination of results through presentations at conferences and through peer-reviewed publication. Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, the IRMS Research Analyst will primarily work independently to undertake all aspects of method development and application including reference standard preparation, sample cleanup, instrumental analysis and data review.
Qualifications•Research experience in related field, such as Mass Spectrometry, Geochemistry, or Environmental
•Working knowledge of instrumental analysis by gas chromatography, liquid chromatography
•Ability to operate all common laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, analytical balance, SPE manifold, solvent evaporator, heating block, sonicator, manual and electronic pipetting devices
•Knowledge of a variety of organic, biochemical and analytical chemistry techniques, including chemical derivatization, extraction, chromatographic separation, and enzymatic hydrolysis
•Ability to precisely and accurately perform sample manipulations including aliquotting, solid-phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction and chemical derivatization
•Ability to work weekends and holidays as necessary
Not required, but a plus if you have the following:
•Knowledge/experience in isotope ratio mass spectrometry
•Experience with XCalibur, Isodat, ChemStation
•Experience with application of HPLC, GC/MS and GC/C/IRMS for analysis of steroids, including method development and validation
