The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Staff Research Associate I to support studies focused on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), sarcoidosis, COPD, bronchiectasis, and lung transplantation. The position involves investigating innate immune responses, particularly the complement system, in modulating lung injury, using murine lung transplant models and human biospecimens. Responsibilities include performing surgical procedures such as left single lung orthotopic transplants, conducting molecular and cell biology experiments (e.g., PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry), managing mammalian cell cultures, and analyzing data for publication. The role also includes maintaining detailed lab records, managing the mouse breeding colony (including genotyping and health case response), maintaining lab equipment and supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The candidate will help train and supervise undergraduate researchers and new lab members.
Hourly range: $26.52-$31.63
Qualifications
Required:
Knowledge of basic genetics, immunology, and biochemical principles.
Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, PCR, etc.
Demonstrated ability to calculate concentrations of solutions as necessary.
Ability to carefully handle mice according to ARC guidelines.
Familiarity with techniques including Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and ELISA.
Ability to create and maintain records accurately.
Ability to organize raw data into a comprehensible form.
Ability to maintain laboratory readiness for future experiments.
Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and MS Powerpoint.
Ability to communicate effectively to convey experimental results.
Demonstrate previous experience teaching and training students in laboratory research. Train new members of the lab in laboratory techniques.
Aptitude and willingness to learn and execute in vivo work in murine models of lung injury.
Willingness to work with human biospecimens with adequate safety precautions
Ability to prioritize and organize projects through multiple phases.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion, tact, sensitivity and diplomacy.
Preferred:
B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
Experience with left single lung orthotopic transplant surgery on mouse
