Cleveland Clinic is seeking a Clinical Bioethicist to provide ethics consultation services at a multi-hospital, quaternary care system by delivering care as part of a group practice and contributing to the full range of clinical ethics program activities enterprise-wide.
Responsibilities:
Clinical ethics consultation service: 18-20 on-call weeks including both 24/7 primary and daytime-only call responsibilities.
Travel to Main Campus and regional hospitals across Northeast Ohio as needed.
Maintain internal documentation of clinical ethics consultations for database records and contribute to QI/QA efforts.
Collaborate with colleagues to produce scholarship.
Participate in ongoing clinical ethics programming, including ethics education, professional development of caregivers, and community outreach.
Mentor and supervise bioethics fellows and rotating trainees.
Contribute to Center- and institution-level initiatives that promote innovation.
Provide expert input on clinical ethics issues across the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise and at the local, regional, and national levels.
The successful candidate will:
Provide high-quality ethics consultation services, including high complexity cases on a high-volume team-based service.
Facilitate and lead meetings, utilize appropriate techniques for conflict engagement, and build consensus.
Collaborate professionally with members of multidisciplinary clinical teams and leadership, engaging multiple points of view and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Contribute to the Center’s mission of innovation in clinical ethics, including quality assessment and improvement.
Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development.
Demonstrate orientation toward relationship-centered collaboration, teambuilding, and patient-centered care, and the ability to work collaboratively and inclusively to inspire and motivate others.
Practice consistently with the characteristics central to Cleveland Clinic and the Center for Bioethics’ values: honesty, integrity, humility, courage, tolerance for ambiguity, open-mindedness, balanced judgment and demeanor, accountability, and good stewardship of resources.
Qualifications:
Required
MD/DO, JD, PhD, international equivalent, or field-specific terminal degree.
Acute care clinical ethics consultation experience.
Preferred
Successful completion of a post-graduate clinical ethics fellowship.
