The College of Arts and Science at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track entry-level Assistant Professor position in the area of Medical Humanities beginning Fall 2019. The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively, advise students, and conduct and publish independent and collaborative research.
Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, XULA is Catholic and historically Black. Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.
Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate field in a medical humanities-related discipline and a commitment to teaching, research, and service. Areas of special interest include but are not limited to Narrative Medicine, medical anthropology, cultural and historical aspects of medicine as it relates to African Americans, Bioethics, the role of fine arts and performing arts on medical training and practice, and health equity issues in the practice of medicine and preparation of physicians and health providers. In addition, applicants with a special interest in digital humanities are preferred.
